Durkan, a construction and development company for London and the Home Counties, acquired Bengeo Nursery in January of this year. They have been talking to councillors and the Bengeo Neighbourhood Area Plan team and want to get permission from East Herts Council to build 44 houses and 8 flats.
The area of Bengeo Nursery, and the surrounding land, have been earmarked by the District Plan for the construction of 150 homes. This was considered necessary to satisfy housing demand in the area up until 2031.
PPML Consulting, on behalf of Durkan, have submitted a development application with the following details:
- 31 Open Market houses, comprising
- 5 2-bed houses
- 17 3-bed houses
- 9 4+-bed houses
- 13 Affordable Rent homes, comprising
- 5 2-bed houses
- 4 1-bed flats
- 4 2-bed flats
- 8 Shared Ownership houses, comprising
- 1 2-bed house
- 5 3-bed houses
- 2 4+-bed houses
Since the development of Buckwells Field development, Sacombe Road regularly has vehicles parked on the West side of the street. Durkan’s travel statement aims to make the section between the Bengeo St roundabout and the entrance to The Wick designated a 20mph zone, with additional speed sign and raised zebra crossing to the new development.
The application can be viewed and commented on the East Herts planning portal using application number 3/19/1826/FUL. The Statement of Community Involvement document details the results of Durkan’s consultation period.
