Hertfordshire County Council have published a project called Bengeo Quieter Streets, which aims to close Byde St for a 12 month trial period.
Their aim is to address the concerns of residents regarding the traffic which travels through the area, and to encourage more journeys by foot and bicycle.
HCC have previously introduced various restrictions, such as a “prohibition of driving, except for access” Traffic Order, a right turn ban from Bengeo Street to Cross Street (during the AM peak period) and Tower Street is one-way.
This trial will involve a bollard and planters in Byde Street by its junction with Fanshawe Street, along with double yellow lines to allow vehicles to turn in the immediate area.
There is a consultation period until 3 August for anyone who wishes to comment. Click https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/about-the-council/consultations/transport-and-highways/bengeo-quieter-streets.aspx to obtain more information on the trial and to respond on the proposals.
MRA residents would hopefully benefit from less through traffic on The Avenue, The Wick, Desborough Close and Cowper Crescent
