Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the East Herts Council has taken the decision to suspend the brown bin collections. This has been made as more and more staff become affected by the coronavirus and hence staffing levels have been reduced, so in order to prioritise both the black and blue bin collections, the brown bin collections have been dropped.
It is hoped the brown bin collections can be reinstated as soon as possible. However, in the mean time East Herts Council have offered advice:
Can I place food waste in the black bin?
Yes. If there is no way to avoid placing food waste in the black bin, it can be placed in with the general waste. However East Herts would encourage everyone to try reducing their food waste by visiting the love food hate waste website.
Are the recycling bins still being collected?
Yes. Recycling collections will continue as normal.
Can I place additional waste out with my bins?
No. Crews will only accept those within the normal bins.
When will you restart brown bin collections?
The brown bin collections will be suspended for the foreseeable future. Monitor the council website for updates to future collections.
In addition, the details about refuse collections can be found on the council website here.
