After 8 years in the planning, work to build 8 homes on land adjoining Waterford Heath has been approved. The final approval was given on 18th February 2021 and allows the building of 2 4-bed houses and 6 3-bed houses off Sacombe Road.
The land, previously owned by Lafarge Tarmac, has been used in conjunction with the quarrying of sand and gravel on adjoining land. It has a permanent employment use, historically for vehicle and machinery workshops and storage. Quarrying ceased in the early 1990s and the former quarry site has been restored to create Waterford Heath.
Although granted planning permission for the construction of 8 homes in 2014, due to changes at Tarmac they were no longer in a position to take on the project. Lafarge Tarmac then sold it to Heritage Estate Group, a developer based in Hertford.
HEG applied for an amended planning application for fewer, but larger, homes. This is the planning application which obtained approval last month. We do not know what the name of the new development will be as this is still outstanding. Waterford Wick might be the most obvious choice, but as the Bengeo Wick is so close this name has been ruled out. The search for a name continues.
Details of the planning application can be found on the East Herts planning portal using application id 3/18/0572/FUL.
