A Hertford resident has set up a petition to ask HCC to explore ways in which the disused railway land can be opened up as a foot/cycle path and retained as a wildlife habitat rather than expose it to the risk of housing development.
The disused railway land was part of a line which linked the Hertford East and Hertford North lines. It was closed down due to the implementation of The Beeching Report in the 1960s, which closed down many branch lines. The old railway cutting can be clearly seen between Port Vale and Port Hill.
Anyone wishing to sign the petition can find it here, and it is thought that if 100 signatures are reached, they will have the right to present the idea to a HCC Cabinet Panel.
