The Environment Agency’s Area Director for Hertford, Simon Hawkins, has confirmed that the oil tank currently at Rickneys quarry will be removed.
Hanson, the aggregates, concrete and cement producing company, which originally dug the gravel from the quarry are due to engage a contractor to remove the tank.
As is usual with quarries, there was agreement when the planning permission was granted to restore the area once excavation was complete.
Although the quarry became largely defunct in the 1990s, in 2014 Hanson was given until 31st December 2017 to being proposals to extend the quarry.
