Here we have a section on what Molewood residents got up to for the Jubilee weekend. If you have any stories or photos you’d like to share please let us know.
In addition the MRA have installed a bench to commemorate the Jubilee in the playing field next to the Serenity development. To see the photos and read the story click here.
The Wick
The Wick’s Jubilee Street Party on Sunday 3rd June was a huge success, attracting neighbours and friends from nearby roads and further afar. Because of the weather, marquees and gazebos, housing three gas barbeques, tables and chairs, were set up on the green instead of in the road. As well as mountains of food brought along by residents, the ice cream man visited and did brisk business despite the cold.
There were prizes for the children for best crown and best decorated bike, followed by games and races on the green.
At one point, a police patrol van came by and children had fun setting off the siren, wearing police hats and turning on the blue light.
Towards evening, the BBQs were still doing business and, although people had begun to drift away, the hard core were still enjoying their food and drink.

As the music goes to a beat.
After a while they wanted more…The ice-cream man pulled up,
But not many people came
Because it poured with rain! The police van arrived,
We got to press the sirens and were locked up.
Tried on the clothing and felt lots of luck.
No matter about the rain, we had lots of fun.
Next time we want the sun!
I had lime ice-cream – it could not be better,
Apart from THE WEATHER.
I wanted it to last forever.
Organiser Linda Smart said “All in all it was a fun day which started at about 1pm”. They had a barbecue which everyone cooked their own food on with residents sharing side dishes and salads with three wood-burners and finished with coffee at about 1am on Tuesday. The MRA donation paid for a welcome drink and nibbles for everyone.
Other than catching up with the neighbours, eating and drinking entertainment came in the form of egg and spoon races, passing the hoop and pinning the tail on the donkey.
A Pimms reception, hog roast, cream tea and ice cream van visit added to the array of fare contributed by the residents themselves. Music from the decades of the Queen’s reign played all day and the flotilla was televised for those that wanted to see how the Queen was celebrating the day.
So many people helped make it a wonderful occasion which brought together residents old, new and soon to be!
In the mean time children could enjoy the making of many crafts that were dotted around the street before everyone gathered for the Jubilee Banquet which was provided by the residents themselves. A selection of cold and hot foods as well as scrummy desserts covered the tables; a feast fit for a Queen.
The close was a sea of flags and bunting as residents decorated their houses and the green to create a party atmosphere. Near the end each child was presented with a commemorative medal displaying the Jubillee logo. The rain made an appearance towards the end of the party, but in true Brit style parasols were erected and everyone huddled closely underneath until the warmth of the indoors became too hard to resist.
All in all it was a great day!
