Thanks to the incredible support of the residents of Hertford Bengeo Ward (more than 3,000 of whom voted), the Bengeo Neighbourhood Area Plan received a resounding 94.8% ‘YES’ vote at the referendum on the 6th May. When planning decisions are made on land or buildings in the Neighbourhood Plan Area, the policies in the Plan will now carry equal weight to those in the East Herts District Plan.
From the first 2017 community meeting at Bengeo School, to discuss whether to have a Neighbourhood Plan, through to the 2021 referendum, the Plan has been a community driven endeavour. The policies in the Plan will give greater protection to some of our lovely green spaces, important views, community facilities and important buildings. They’ll also help protect our air quality and natural habitats, and will contribute towards improving local travel conditions, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. The policies are on pages 12-42 of the Plan Bengeo-Neighbourhood-Area-Plan-compressed.pdf (lovebengeo.org.uk). Examples of the projects and initiatives the Plan will support are on page 60, and there’s a map of the Plan Area on page 7.

Many thanks to MRA for helping to sponsor the production of the Neighbourhood Plan.
