The strip of land which lies between Beane Road, Molewood Road and the River Beane has been placed up for auction, which was due to take place on 19th June through the auction house Robinson & Hall. The land had been split into 4 separate lots ready for sale, however the auction house’s website is showing a postponement with no reason why.
All 4 lots had a combined guide price of £155,000, being sold as Agricultural/Amenity land. A local resident had set up Crowd Funder page to raise funds for the purchase of the land, so that it could be ‘preserved for the community’. Their aim is to raise at least £50,000 for the purchase of as many lots as possible, but at the present time have so far raised £13,740, around £6,000 short of the cheapest guide price.
The area is vulnerable to flooding when the River Beane becomes swollen, so it is unlikely to be developed without considerable improvements.
Anyone interested in viewing details of the lots can find them on the auctioneers website.
The crowd funder website can be found here. Please be aware the Molewood Residents’ Association is not supporting the crowd fund. Any money donated towards the fund is made entirely at the donor’s own risk.
