The Molewood Residents’ Association held a ‘Pizza and Prosecco Bengeo Night’ whilst presenting their AGM on 9th May. It was a well-attended event with residents of the area able to listen to Ben Penrose, Chair of the Committee, give an update on the MRA’s activities for the previous year.
We were delighted to welcome a number of special guest attendees including a number of Town and County Councillors. Residents were addressed by Aska Wisniewska-Pickering who was instrumental in co-ordinating the Stop Bengeo Quarry campaign. After the outstanding success of the campaign, the community spirit seen in objecting to the gravel quarry now has a future focus on three areas: to be ready to respond to a reapplication, to focus on the minerals local plan to ensure that the land of Bengeo field is not a preferred area in the future and extend this to Rickney’s Quarry, and the Bengeo Neighbourhood Plan.
County Councillor Andrew Stevenson also addressed the audience and covered topics such as the gravel pit and future applications, commuter parking, speed restrictions and the bus service.
Residents were able to direct questions to councillors and everyone was engaged in an interesting and lively debate on local issues whilst enjoying pizza and a glass of bubbles.
